Zamfara Killings: Police Arrest Marafa, 2 Others
At least three suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings in Birane village in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara.
Police said the three suspects were arrested few days after bandits, suspected to be cattle rustlers, on February 14 killed 18 persons in Birane village.
According to a statement by the spokesman for the Police, Jimoh Moshood, the suspects are: Halilu Garba, 45, alias Mabushi, Zubairu Marafa, 45, alias Wakili and Nafi’u Badamasi, 40, alias Zakiru.
Mr Moshood further stated that the suspects, who were now in custody, were assisting the Police in their investigation.
Suspects would be arraigned in court on completion of investigation, he added.
The attack in Birane had whipped up worries about the declining security situation and increasing killings in an unresolved crisis between herdsmen and farmers.

To address the situation, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, deployed additional three units of Police Mobile Force ( PMF) to the village after the attack.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that a joint investigation team, headed by the Assistant Inspector -General of Police in charge of intelligence at the Force Headquarters, was also dispatched to the state to fish out the perpetrators.
