Yobe Govt. Apologises Over False Statement About Kidnapped School Girls
Abdullahi Bego, Director-General, Press Affairs to Yobe Governor, has finally admitted and apologized for his misleading information concerning the rescue of some of the 94 kidnapped school girls.
In an initial press statement, Bego disclosed that some of the girls have been rescued by the army.
But the statement turned out to be false, after the governor Ibrahim Gaidam told the parents of the kidnapped girls that none of the missing students has been rescued.
The Nigerian army and police also refused to confirm any rescue.
Abdullahi Bego said the information it relied on turned out to be untrue.
“We issued the statement on the basis of information provided by one of the security agencies that is involved in the fight against Boko Haram and which we had no reason to doubt.”
“We have now established that the information we relied on to make the statement was not credible. The Yobe State Government apologises for that.”
The statement said Gaidam solicited for more patience as “government and security agencies at all levels continued the work to address the unfortunate situation”.
