Each year, the weather gets freakier.

Just this year, Nigerians woke up to a cold harmattan morning in February, an absolute anomaly and evidence that truly the years of earth pollution is finally catching up with us.

It is for this reason; with a view to creating a healthy and clean environment, that leading classified website, OLX teamed up with Climate Stewards to celebrate World Environment Day by giving a detailed report on how transactions on the site have helped reduce the effect of carbon emissions.

According to the research conducted by Climate Stewards and OLX, last year transactions on the OLX platform helped prevent the emission of 1.3million tonnes of CO2 which is equivalent to you flying around the world 160,000 times.

To further put things into perspective it’s also equivalent to 17,000 tankers worth of petrol.

Speaking on the importance of a clean environment, Marketing Manager, OLX; Fifemayo Aiyesimoju pointed out that "selling and buying of used goods instead of purchasing new ones is a great way to create a healthy and clean environment for us all."

To this end, every time one sells a product on OLX, the life of the product gets extended, and every time one buys a used product, one less item gets produced, lowering CO2 emissions.

She therefore urged Nigerians to join in the move to protect the environment by sourcing quality used items on the site, which would significantly reduce carbon footprint, which is the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere due to the activities of a particular individual, organisation, or community.
