Women members of Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) will soon go naked to curse governors from the Southeast zone for the sufferings and death of their members.

This was part of the resolution reached after a zonal meeting of Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) held at the Local Government Service Commission in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State Capital.

According to the resolution, the aggrieved women would embark on fervent prayers using their breasts to rain curses on state governors in the southeast who have refused to pay them their retirement benefits.

The NUP decried the poor welfare of their members in the zone, especially in Imo State, even as they urged pensioners to build an effigy as a sign of Imo State governor’s corpse and bury him while he is still alive.

While briefing the Union, the Abakaliki Chairman, Chief Donatus Okemini blamed the Ebonyi State Accountant General for the sufferings of the pensioners in the state and appealed to government to address their plights to stop further death of their members.

Zonal Chairman of the Union, Evangelist Livinus Ashiegbeu, said their members die in their numbers on a daily basis because of the deprivation of their pension allowances needed to buy drugs and food.

“The condition of pensioners is deteriorating. It is unheard of. It is inhuman. Pensioners are not treated as Nigerians. I wonder if they are citizens. And the nation forgets that these are the people that have built up the state.

“The time they need this little money; their saved salary, they are denied of it for years. The question of gratuity is the most pathetic. For instance, since 1998 in Imo State, no pensioner has received if it is above N500, 000," he added.
