Wike, Amaechi Clash In Port Harcourt
It was a political showdown in the garden city of Port Harcourt as supporters of two top politicians in Rivers state, Governor Nyesom Wike and former governor, Chibuike Amaechi got embroiled in a fight on Saturday.
Eyewitnesses said trouble started after the convoys of the former governor and now transport minister, Amaechi and that of Governor Nyesom Wike ran into each other in Port Harcourt city on Saturday night.
Spokesmen of both Wike and Amaechi, traded claims of assassination attempt, but as the adage has it, it is the grass that suffers when two elephants fight.
The clear victims of the squabble were the policemen attached to Amaechi.
One of them, Sargent Eteng, was beaten until blood flowed from his head, while the AK-47 rifle of another police officer, Sergent. Princewill Ubaji was taken away by the Rivers governor’s convoy.
Amaechi also claimed his car was damaged in the encounter.
Simon Nwakaudu, spokesman of Governor Wike said his boss escaped assassination from Amaechi’s armed men, the same claim made by the APC spokesman in the state, who also claimed that an outrider of Wike’s convoy threatened Amaechi with a gun.
Rivers State has become a clear case of one boat being unable to contain two captains.
