WICKED! See Different Shades Of Child Abuse In Lagos
Things just keep getting worse despite the campaigns against child abuse in Nigeria and across the world.
If not for some concerned neighbours, perhaps we could end up having to rue the death of another teenage girl.
On November 4, 2018, at about 1.30 p.m. local time, a concerned neighbour reported to the police a case of a woman who had the habit of locking her 14-year-old house help in the toilet anytime she is going out.
She had just done it again, as she left for church, when the neighbour, who had had enough cried out to the police and that was how the cookie crumbled.
The DPO of Ipaja Division visited the house at Baruwa Estate and forced the door open to rescue the victim.
The child narrated her ordeal since she started living with the suspect.
On close examination by the command’s gender personnel, wounds were seen all over the girl’s body, an indication that she might have been enduring worse mistreatment.
You have to wonder how people do evil to fellow men and seek the love of God. Couldn’t she have gone to church with the girl?
This happened just two days after the Command Gender Unit began investigation into a case of defilement involving one Lukman Haruna from Niger Republic.
Haruna allegedly defiled a 10-year-old girl by inserting his fingers into her private parts.
The discovery of what happened to the little girl was made by one Mrs Abali, also a neighbour when she saw blood stains around the girl’s genital region.
Obviously, the Lagos State Police Command has its hands full with many cases of abuse, but they have promised to see through all investigations and ensure that the suspects were charged.
During his chat with the media on Monday, November 6, the Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, gave the assurance that the command would not relent in its resolve to protect children and other vulnerable persons.
