Police in Lagos is not only punishing civilian criminals, it is also going hard on its own men found wanting.

According to a breakdown in figures made available to Bounce News, some police officers believed to be corrupt and undisciplined have been punished for various offences between the months of September and December 2017.

Police's spokesman, Chike Oti, told Bounce News that nine officers were dismissed for offences ranging from discreditable conduct, corrupt practice, disobedience to lawful order and falsehood.

He said 25 were reduced in rank for offences ranging from gross insubordination, drunkenness, incivility to members of the public and leaving beat.

A total of 60 Inspectors and rank and files were awarded the punishments of Major and minor entries.

Uti quoted the Commissioner of Police, Edgar Imohimi, as saying the punishments handed down to the unruly officers should serve as deterrent to others who may wish to toe the path of ignominy.

He stated further that officers who play by the rules had nothing to fear and would be encouraged.
