For many, camping the Super Eagles in France ahead of a game that will be taking place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State makes no sense.

This perhaps informs the reason why Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has come out to clearly explain the rationale behind having his team camp in France ahead of the match in June.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face South Africa in their opening game of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

“The season in Europe will end in May thereabout, instead of the players going on holiday and requesting them to come afterwards, it is better to have the players move into camp and France is in Europe and close to these players, I want them to get there as soon as possible,” Rohr told journalists at the Agege Stadium over the weekend.

Nigeria and South Africa played in the same group for the qualifiers for AFCON 2015. The Bafana Bafana denied the Eagles the opportunity to defend their title in Gabon/Equatorial Guinea 2015.

For the race to make it to AFCON 2019, Nigeria and South Africa are placed in Group E along with Libya and Seychelles for the qualifiers.
