Everyone needs to imbibe the culture of annual eyes screening for early detection of any abnormality.

This advice is based on the World Health Organisation’s recommendation that one needs to screen his or her eyes at least once a year.

Resident Optometrist at Touchstone Eye International Ltd., Dr Ohuonu Ogidi, wants Nigerians to take this advice serious.

So, if you have not done this in a while, you may need to book an appointment with the expert.

He explained that such routine screening would usher in early treatment in order to prevent avoidable blindness.

Backing his belief with action, the organization conducted a visual screening exercise for members of staff of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.

He explained that the choice of the agency staff for the exercise was necessitated by the nature of their jobs, noting that many of them were often time exposed to computers.

Ogidi noted that such exposure predisposed them to eye defects that required regular screening and medication.

“It is good for every individual to have his or her eyes screened at list once in a year in order to know your visual status,” Ogidi said.

Some of the eye challenges detected include cataract, allergies and refractive errors among other defects.
