What You Should Know About Stress Management As You Get Older
Old age is not a curse, but your actions could cause your old age to become a burdensome affair.
Stress certainly is not easy to manage at any age, but it can become more difficult to cope as you get older for several reasons.
First, as you get older, your body cannot physically handle stress the same way it did when you were younger.
Two organs in your body – the heart and lungs - may not have the capacity the use to have and your body may have a harder time recovering from stressful events.
In addition, it may be more challenging to cope with stress mentally.
Harvard Medical School in a recent report on stress management at old age says your stress may also be caused by different factors, which could be more complicated than the issues you faced in your younger years.
Here are a few symptoms that could mean you are stressed – memory loss or dementia or include appetite changes, headaches, anxiety, irritability, or trouble concentrating.
However, physicians have warned that these symptoms could also occur as a result of other ailments or conditions.
A few things will be of great help to keep your body up and strong to fight stress.
A good night's sleep can help reduce stress in some instances, but as you age, you may not sleep as soundly, which can lead to higher levels of stress hormones in the brain.
