When you come across some manners of driving in Lagos you would not question the recommendation of psychiatric test for traffic offenders.

Even traffic officials, in spite of seeing all sorts every day, are still left with surprises on a daily basis.

The Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, has a story to tell.

He led an enforcement operation along Lagos-Abeokuta express-way and was left shocked that motorists including private car owners could be driving against traffic on a long express-way without fear of imminent collusion with upcoming vehicles.

He disclosed that 19 motorists were apprehended for driving against upcoming vehicles (one-way) which is contrary to 'Scheduled (1) item 27' of the Lagos State Road Traffic Laws of 2012.

12 private car owners and 7 commercial bus drivers were apprehended during the enforcement operations.

All 19 of them were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Amos Olajuwon of the Lagos State Mobile Court at Oshodi.

Chief Magistrate forfeited to the government one of the impounded 19 vehicles, an Honda Car belonging to one Mr. Felix John with registration No: BDG 465 XL, after he pleaded 'guilty' to have driven against upcoming vehicle (one-way).

He then adjourned till December 7, 2017 for commencement of trial of other arrested 18 motorists after they all pleaded 'not guilty' before the court.

Prosecutor Counsel Barrister Olumide Ajibola said the arraignment of the 19 one-way drivers would serve as deterrent to other road users across the State.

SP Egbeyemi warned that this is how any motorist arrested for driving against traffic in any part of the state would be charged to court.
