A lot has been said about a supposed Arsenal bid for Pierre Aubameyang to join from Dortmund, but “no comment on that” was what Wenger told the press when asked about it.

Could this reluctance to comment on Aubameyang be because of comments from Michael Zorc at Borussia Dortmund that Wenger had been unethical?

“I don’t know what I said? I said nothing happens and I cannot comment on that. So I am quite surprised.

“It looks to me like a tactical reaction rather than anything else, because I said nothing. I said I don’t know anything about it," he said.

Although Borussia Dortmund have claimed that negotiations are underway for Aubameyang, the Gunners boss would still not be dragged in.

“They are responsible for their own statements you know. I cannot stand up for what they say.

“But if we sign somebody, we will announce it. I half-announced today, Sanchez against Mkhitaryan, because that is likely to happen and the rest… we are not close at all to anything.

He was further probed on whether Olivier Giroud could move to Borussia Dortmund, but he also replied that Arsenal were “nowhere near anything with Dortmund”.

It looks like this will be a long January for Arsenal fans.
