Celebrations gave way to grief when gunmen struck in Tsohuwar Gwari village in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, on Saturday night.

The attack led to the death of two and the abduction of a bride and eight other persons.

According to eyewitnesses, the abducted bride was being taken to her new home as customs and traditions demanded when the gunmen struck.

The bride and eight of her companions, including friends and relatives, were abducted.

The incident reportedly happened on Funtua Road bordering Birnin Gwari and Katsina.

Reports said three of those abducted managed to escape.

“They killed two people on the spot and kidnapped nine, even though three people were able to escape,” a witness said.

The spokesman of the Police Command, Aliyu Mukhtar, confirmed the incident but did not give details.

The attack came on the heels of another less than a week in which eleven soldiers were killed by gunmen at their duty post.

Zubairu Gwari, Emir of Birnin Gwari, had on Saturday asked his subjects to defend themselves against invaders.
