The Independent Electoral Commission in Gombe State has said it would be deploying its personnel and other electoral materials to polling units for the conduct of the presidential and National Assembly member’s election on 23 February.

According to a statement that was signed by the Gombe State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ibrahim Umar, the polls will be opening in the state by 8:00 a.m. that is shortly after the deployment of the staff and electoral materials.

While convincing voters in Gombe on the sanctity of the ballot which is the right of every Nigeria, the REC reassured them of the commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair and credible elections in the State. 

“We call on all eligible voters to come out en-masse on Saturday with their PVC’s to vote candidate of their choice,” he said.

The statement also revealed that the commission had retrieved all sensitive materials and smart card readers distributed and deployed to Local Government Areas, LGA of the State on Friday 15 February.

This according to REC Ibrahim Umar was as a result of the postponement of the elections and to reconfigure the Card readers against the next Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

He also revealed that the retrieval of the materials was to surmount some challenges earlier encountered by the commission and to guarantee an election that would meet international best practices.

The Electoral umpire added that movement of the sensitive materials to LGA for distribution according to Registration Areas, RA and PU would commence on Friday and that there would also be refresher training for ah-hoc staff on Friday 22.
