'We Are Not Fighting For Saraki, But For…' – Murray-Bruce
The common sense senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, has cleared the air on what the Senators of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) want from the entire drama Nigerians are watching in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
He wants Nigerians to know that they are just concerned about the nation's democracy and nothing more.
The drama reached its climax at the National Assembly on Tuesday, when officials of the Department of State Service (DSS) blocked the entrance of the National Assembly, forcing lawmakers that had scheduled a meeting for the day to push their way into the complex.
Defections in the Senate the previous week and that of the Senate President had endeared Dr. Bukola Saraki, to Senators of the PDP who are looking for a way to be in the majority in the upper chamber.
But that defection is still raising dust of uncertainty in the Senate even as members enjoy an unplanned recess that will last till the first week of September.
On Saturday, however, Senator Murray-Bruce said the fight of the Senators was not for the Senate President who has been asked by his former party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to resign.
Saraki has said a million of the party chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, could not remove him from office.
But Murray-Bruce, who is from southern Nigeria, believes the APC is misunderstanding the entire thing.
Senator Murray-Bruce said: "The APC Federal Government must not misunderstand my colleagues in the PDP and I.
"We are not fighting for Bukola Saraki, we are fighting for democracy.
"If they can impeach Saraki legally then they should do so and stop any forceful, illegal and undemocratic attempt at impeachment".
