Everton striker Wayne Rooney has agreed to join America’s MLS side, DC United for a fee believed to be £12m.

It means Sunday’s English Premier League game against West Ham will be Rooney’s last in England.

A number of MLS franchises held talks with Rooney's agent Paul Stretford more than a year ago before England's top goalscorer returned to Goodison Park.

The agreement, which runs to the end of the MLS season in 2020, is yet to be signed, but SSN understands it would take a significant change of heart by Rooney and his family to stop the transfer going ahead.

Rooney's salary would make him the highest-paid player in the DC organisation. The club has one of the smallest payrolls in the MLS but, with the revenue from a new stadium expected to increase, the club is looking to invest in talent.
