Two million naira cash had been entrusted to Frank Godwill (26), to assist Elvis Aken build a house.

But months after sending the cash, the supposed house owner failed to see the building or the money.

The accused was on Monday charged before an Ota Magistrates Court in Ogun.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offence between January 22 and April 24 at Poultry Bus-Stop, Ijako, Ota.

Godwill, who lives at No. 42, Temidire Street, Iyana-Ilogbo, is now facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The police said that the offence contravened Section 249(d) of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. And he was admitted to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit of means.

He also ordered that the sureties should submit four recent passport photographs to the court and show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun state government.

Banwo adjourned the case until July 27.
