WAFU Women's Cup: Super Falcons Pick Bronze
The Nigeria national women's football team, the Super Falcons on Saturday ended their campaign at the WAFU Women's Cup in Abidjan on a high; beating Mali in the third-place match.
The Super Falcons won bronze at the WAFU Women’s Cup of Nations after defeating Mali 2-1 in the third place match.
Fatoumata Diarra gave the Malians the lead nine minutes into the game before Chinaza Uchendu scored a brace in the 15th and 39th minutes to put Nigeria back in front.
Uchendu could have registered a hat-trick but her 89th minute goal was disallowed.
However, Uchendu was named the woman of the match at the end of the game for her brace.
The Super Falcons had lost on penalties to perennial rivals Ghana in the semi-finals, while Mali were defeated by hosts Cote d’Ivoire.
