Benin Republic have emerged as the semifinal opponent for the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the ongoing WAFU Cup of Nations in Ghana.

The Squirrels as the Benin Republic team are fondly called scored in the dying seconds of their final Group B game on Tuesday against Niger to set up a clash against Nigeria in the semifinals.

Benin have shown mental strength to come back from a 4-0 bashing by Senegal in their second group game.

Nigeria finished as runners-up in Group A and will face Group B winners Benin in one of Thursday’s semifinal games.

The match would be keenly contested as Nigeria recently eliminated Benin Republic in the CHAN 2018 qualifiers.

Nigeria fought back from a 1-0 loss in Cotonou to win 2-0 in Kano and send Benin packing from the CHAN qualifiers.

The other semi-final will be between hosts, Ghana and Niger, who still finished ahead of Senegal.

The Teranga Lions who were held to a 0-0 draw by Cote d’Ivoire's Elephants.
