The Super Eagles of Nigeria have kept themselves in contention at the ongoing WAFU Cup of Nations after they were able to to beat the Black Stars of Ghana 2-0 in their final group game on Monday.

The Super Eagles had their backs against the wall going into Monday's game as the draws they recorded against Mali and Guinea in their earlier group games meant they must beat hosts and fierce rivals, Ghana in Monday night’s encounter.

That mission was initially looking impossible as the Eagles fired blanks in the first half while Guinea were already a goal up in the other group game against Mali.

Things, however, took a different turn in the second half as the Eagles finally found their scoring boots; with two goals in the first 10 minutes after restart.

Anthony Okpotu and Peter Eneji who was voted man-of-the-match were the goal scorers.

That was more than enough to see Nigeria move into the semis with Ghana who still finished top of the group despite the loss on Monday.

For Guinea and Mali who ended their game 1-1, it was the end of the road for both teams as they have crashed out of the sub-regional football tournament.
