President Muhammadu Buhari has left Addis Ababa for Nigeria after participating in the 30th African Union Summit, where he presented a statement on “Winning the Fight Against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation”.

He had on Monday told the gathering that Africa nations needed to work fast and establish a Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA).

The Nigerian leader believes that the establishment of a single, unified market in Africa will increase trade, create more jobs and reduce poverty.

President Buhari made the call while presenting Nigeria’s position in favour of the Report on the establishment of a Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) and related issues presented by President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger Republic, during the Ordinary Session. 

He must be coming back to Nigeria with a renewed vigour for the fight against corruption.

President Buhari had described corruption as “one of the greatest evils of our time”, warning corrupt Nigerians that the war against corruption has come to stay.

A spokesman for the President, Mr Garba Shehu, said Buhari was conferred the Champion of the theme of the 30th AU Summit - “Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation”.

President Buhari thanked his African colleagues for entrusting him with such a noble responsibility.
