UPDATE: Ondo Government Reduces Tuition Fee
The stormy dust that greeted the decision of the Ondo State government on the increment in tuition fees of the state-owned Adekunle Ajasin University, may have come to an end.
After an extensive dialogue between the state government and representatives of the students at a meeting that lasted for about 7 hours in the Governor's office, Alagbaka Akure, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu gave his word to the students on the possibility of reducing the outrageous fees.
In less than 48 hours after the meeting, the state government downwardly reviewed the tuition fees to what seems to be a convenient mode of payment for the students.
In a statement issued by the Student Union Executives on Thursday night, the tuition fee is reviewed as followed:
Faculty of Law: #100,000
Faculty of Science: #100,000
Faculty of Social and management science: #100,000
Faculty of Education: #80,000
Faculty of Art: #80,000
The decision also comes with an option to pay twice i.e #50,000 and #40,000 per semester respectively.
Final year students across all faculties are to pay a sum of #70,000 with an option of paying twice that is #35,000 per semester.
The governor also told the students that this is the lowest he can go and urged them and their parents to abide by it.
However, the Students Union insisted that it would seek the opinion of the students populace as the final decision of the union lies with Nigeria students.
Whether this decision goes down well with the students and puts a lasting solution to the face -off between them and the state government, only time will tell.
