Update: Akeredolu Fingered In Continuous Remand Of Herdsman Killer
Residents of Arigidi- Akoko in Ondo State have slammed the state governor for playing politics at the detriment of those whom he professed to govern.
Their grievances were in reaction to the remand of one of their farmers, Ajayi Bayode who was accused of murdering a Fulani herdsman in self-defense on his farmland.
It was gathered that at the resumption of the matter in court on Friday, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Victoria Bob-Manuel had granted the accused bail on health ground in order to be medically fit for trial.
However, a lawyer from Ondo State Ministry of Justice, O.F Olatunji, was said to have asked the court to reverse its order on the grounds that it lacked jurisdiction to hear the case.
According to a source, Olatunji was said to be carrying out an order from the state Attorney General, Kolawole Olawoye who is directly getting instructions from the state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.
A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity said the governor, who should have exercised his prerogative power to get the accused out of the trouble, is now the one condemning the accused.
"If you know the havoc Fulani herdsmen have caused in our area, the number of people that have been rendered homeless, jobless, and killed, you will be disappointed. Yet, the governor has not done anything to address it." He said
"Right from the onset, we have seen the handwriting on the wall. We all knew that the state government would not be of help the day we came to the governor's office.
"As it is, the governor has preferred to do the bidding of the federal government rather than protecting us from the ravenous herdsmen." Said Taye Aduragbemi.
On his part, Felix Adetoye believe it is a betrayal of trust.
"We have been betrayed by Akeredolu's government. But I can assure you that if Bayode dies in prison, we will take action." He assured.
Bounce Newshad reported that the accused was arrested by the state police for allegedly killing a Fulani herdsman, Abubakar Alidu in self defence after the deceased was said to have invaded his farm alongside his colleagues.
