Unknown Buyer Pays 11 Billion Naira For Kola Aluko’s New York House
Do you remember Kola Aluko - the Nigerian big boy accused of dipping his hands in the cookie jar along with embattled former petroleum minister, Diezani Allison Madueke?
Reports say a yet-to-be identified buyer has paid about 11 billion naira ($36 million) for his luxury penthouse at the One57 tower in New York.
Aluko is still wanted in Nigeria by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Quoting Bloomberg, Curbed reported that the 79th floor apartment was sold at a foreclosure auction.
However, the property was sold at a loss of $15 million, about 4.5 billion naira, after he allegedly failed to keep up payment of mortgage on the property.
Aluko, who is wanted in Nigeria for fraudulent oil deals estimated at $1.5 billion, bought the apartment in 2014 for $51 million.
In America where he lives, Aluko along with his business partner, Jide Omokore, have a case to answer for alleged money laundering charges.
Aluko’s case is quite an intriguing one. Sometime this year, a court in Nigeria tried to freeze Aluko’s assets, including the property that was just sold but could not find him to serve him with papers.
And the grapevine has it that he may simply be floating around the world on his 213-foot yacht, the Galactica Star.
This means that the man may be living on his ship, bought at a cost of $80 million, about 24 billion naira.
Can you track a man permanently living on a boat at sea?
