Authorities of Oduduwa University at Ipetumodu (OUI) in Osun State have denied the allegation that the embattled Rector of Igbajo Polytechnic, Olaolu Akinola Olugbenga, was once an Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor of the university.

In a statement by OUI’s Registrar, Adeline Adeyemi, the authorities noted that though Olugbenga was employed as Lecturer I at the university, he never held any position of responsibility throughout his stay at the university.

The statement added that the embattled rector, who is in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for alleged PhD certificate forgery, was dismissed from the university over allegation of same questionable qualifications which he failed to defend as he fled the university before he could be accosted and handed over to the police.

OUI said the statement was necessary to set the records straight for the public to know that it is a respectable institution which would not condone or support certificate forgery or racketeering.

Olugbenga, who is being detained at the Ibadan, Oyo State office of the ICPC, is undergoing interrogation, after preliminary investigations by the agency’s operatives, who were acting on a petition, confirmed that he was working with a fake PhD certificate purportedly from the University of Ibadan (UI).
