UNIOSUN Students In Violent Protest Over Colleague’s Death
Angry students of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN) have again taken over the streets of Osogbo, the Osun State capital to protest the death of one of their colleagues.
The student on Wednesday laid siege on some streets burning tyres and vandalising properties to vent their anger.
Dressed in black shirts and trousers, the students chanted war songs and attacked motorists and journalists covering the protest.
Oluwafemi Shonibare, a 400 level student of the university who went missing over a week, was found dead beside the house of a 19-year-old man Sakariyau Abdulrofiu, believed to be a traditionalist.
The angry students had earlier on Tuesday razed down Abdulrofiu’s house after the decomposing corpse of Shonibare was found in a bush beside the building.
Abdulrofiu was said to have smashed Shonibare's head twice with a pestle to kill him. He later severed his head and palms and dumped other parts of the body in the bush.
The severed parts were said to have been put in a local pot and burnt into ashes for rituals.
Abdulrofiu was later arrested after tip-off. After his arrest, Abdulrofiu led the police to a spot near his house where the body of the student was dumped.
The body of Shonibare was already decomposing when it was retrieved by the police.
This is the third time within a month that ritualists would be arrested with human parts in Osun state.
