Unemployment: 8,000 Persons Take Test For 250 Traffic Officials' Job In Edo
The level of unemployment in Nigeria is still very high.
Only 250 persons are needed as officials of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA) in the recruitment process, but at least 8,000 persons took the aptitude test.
The Managing Director of the agency, Mr Denis Oloriegbe, personally supervised the test held on Saturday that lasted for 45 minutes.
It was conducted in batches, because of the large turnout of applicants, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mr Osarodion Ogie, had said that only 250 vacancies were available in the agency.
Ogie had attributed the high number of applicants for the few available vacancies in that agency to the reform carried out by Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration.
On what will follow after the aptitude test, Oloriegbe said the selection process would be transparent.
According to him, only qualified applicants would be engaged as part of the process to build a world class traffic agency.
The agency, which was established by an Act of the State House of Assembly, started operation with about 300 workforce in September 2017.
As part of the reform, Oloriegbe, who was a staff of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), was recruited to midwife the agency.
