Unemployed Man In Court For Stealing Friend’s Banana
Charles Okoro and Isioma Uzochukwu are friends; rather were friends but its seems some Bananas have fallen between them.
Charles is 26 and he is unemployed.
Isioma is accusing him of stealing 5 cartons of banana worth 20,000 Naira and Charles is now in court, facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The accused, whose address is unknown, is being tried at a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.
The Police Prosecutor, Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on August 5 at the Badagry roundabout in Badagry.
“The complainant gave the accused the 5 cartons of banana to safeguard for her, because she was travelling for a week.
“The accused ate three cartons of the banana and sold the rest,” he said.
The NEWS Agency of Nigeria quoted Uko as saying that the offence committed contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 20115 (Revised).
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
If found guilty, the accused may get maximum 3-year jail term.
The Magistrate, Jimoh Adefioye, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of 100,000 Naira and a surety, who must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned till for September 22.
