22 year old Caleb Obasogi allegedly had an argument with the 55-year-old woman, Josephine Igbineweka over an undisclosed amount of money.

Caleb is a final year student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) while his late mother was a beer parlour operator in Benin.

It was learnt that the deceased had passed the previous night in a neighbour’s house when her son allegedly refused to let her in for not giving him the money.

The incident was said to have happened at about 8am on Thursday at her residence at 31A, Iyamu Street, off Textile Mill Road, Benin City, Edo State.

The following day, the suspect, who was said to be the last child of the deceased, allegedly locked himself and the late mother inside their room and stabbed her repeatedly with broken bottle until her intestines ripped out.

He reportedly dangled the intestines and his mother’s womb before neighbours before they could rush in to rescue her.

The suspect was later arrested by police operatives from the Textile Mill division.

Spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, DSP Moses Nkombe, confirmed the incident and disclosed that the suspect will be charged to court on Monday.
