UEFA Champions League: Nigerian Stars Seek Bright Start
The UEFA Champions League group stage will get underway on Tuesday night across Europe and Nigeria is well represented across the 4 groups that will be on parade.
In Group A, Aaron Samuel and his CSKA Moscow teammates will be hoping for a bright start, as they play away to Benfica in Portugal.
Samuel will be hoping to make his maiden show in the Champions League as memorable as ever.
In the other Group A clash, it will be Manchester United taking on Basel and Jose Mourinho will be keen to see that his team hit the ground running as the Red Devils begin their quest to conquer Europe again.
In Group B, the flag bearer for Nigeria is Henry Onyekuru who is on loan from Everton to Anderlecht. The Belgian club are playing away to German champions Bayern Munich.
It is yet to be seen how petite Onyekuru will fare against the imposing Bayern defenders.
The other Group B clash is between Celtic and high-spending PSG.
In Group C, Victor Moses is the main man for Nigeria and he would be in action as Chelsea take on Qarabag at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
Roma will take on Atletico Madrid in the other Group C game.
And finally in Group D, which is seen as the Group Of Death, Emmanuel Emenike is the Nigerian in that group and his Greek club, Olympiacos will be starting out against Sporting CP.
Barcelona and Juventus will be battling it out in the other group tie and arguably the star fixture in Match Day 1 of the UEFA Champions League for the 2017/18 season.
