UEFA Champions League: Liverpool Set For Showdown Against PSG
After going all the way to the Champions League final last season, Liverpool will be starting on a rather tough note this term as they face Paris Saint Germain on Match Day 1.
The Reds have been in blistering form this season; winning all their League games and as usual providing their trademark goals with the trio of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah on fire.
Interestingly, PSG have equally started the season with a bang and they also have a formidable trio; Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Edison Cavani who are capable of wreaking havoc against any defense.
Indeed, this is the ‘Hollywood’ fixture of the week and many will be hoping for a goal-fest.
It is on record that PSG have scored in each of their last 16 Champions League outings and their hosts are also a free-scoring side.
After the disappointment of the 3-1 loss at the hands of Real Madrid last May, the Reds will be hoping to reach back-to-back finals for the first time since 1985.
Certainly, they will be expected to spin another European fairytale having massively overachieved last campaign.
Well rested Fabinho and Joel Matip could return to the starting XI for Liverpool. Xherdan Shaqiri could fill in for Firmino with his freak eye-injury.
Sturridge is another option at the attacking head. Divock Origi and Dominic Solanke are still injured at the moment.
Firmino has scored 10 times in his last 13 Champions League games and will be a big miss, no matter who replaces him.
Tuesday’s tie is the first time since the 2009-2010 campaign that Liverpool will be meeting a French side in the Champions League.
Then, they lost 1-2 to Lyon at Anfield and drew 1-1 away but they will hope for a better outing this term.
Meanwhile, in the other Group C tie, FK Crvena Zvezda will be hosts to Carlo Ancelotti's Napoli.
