After barely escaping defeat when both teams met last time out in London, Chelsea were crushed on Tuesday by Roma in one of the Match Day 4 encounters of the Champions League.

Roma got off to a blistering start with a goal inside the first 40 seconds and while many thought Chelsea will muster a comeback, they only chased the game for 90 minutes plus added time.

Two goals came off the boots of Stephan El Shaarawy who helped Roma run out 3-0 winners at the Stadio Olimpico.

The winger opened the scoring on 39 seconds. The Italy international added a second before the break.

Diego Perotti completed the scoring just after the hour mark to take the Serie A side to the top of Group C.

However, while Chelsea drop to second after extending their dismal run in Italy to five defeats in six games, the Premier League side only require one win to qualify for the last 16 after Atletico Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by Qarabag.
