Lionel Messi and his Barcelona teammates have been sent packing from this season's Champions League.

Barcelona entered Tuesday's match holding a 4-1 advantage from the first leg at Camp Nou, but the were eliminated from the competition on away goals by an impressive Roma outfit who won 3-0 on the night.

A Daniele de Rossi penalty made it 2-0 to the home side in the 58th minute after Edin Dzeko had secured the early breakthrough, before Kostas Manolas headed a third for the Italians in the 82nd minute.

With Tuesday's outster, Barcelona have been knocked out at the Champions League quarter-final stage in each of the last 3 seasons.

The last time they went past quarter-finals was in 2015; going all the way to win the trophy.
