French side Lyon provided one of the shocking results of Match Day 1 of the UEFA Champions League as they beat Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

Maxwel Cornet and Nabil Fekir gave the Ligue 1 side a two-goal lead at the break and although Bernardo Silva halved the deficit, City could not find an equaliser in the closing stages.

The setback on Wednesday night leaves City at the bottom of Group F, although a 2-2 draw between Shakhtar Donetsk and Hoffenheim means that Pep Guardiola's team are just a point adrift of second spot.
