UBA Makes U-Turn On ATM Card Usage Restrictions
Did someone receive a harsh worded email from Oga Elumelu?
One of Nigeria’s biggest lenders has made a U-turn on its decision to ban use of its ATM cards for some transactions it considers unsafe.
The bank had on Thursday, through an email to its customers, announced a ban on the use of its debit and credit cards in betting, pornography, jewelry and other such transactions.
Some people had considered the decision to be some sort of moral policing.
But they have now issued another email telling their customers that their cards are theirs to use as they may choose.
“In our relentless bid to continuously provide excellent services to our customers, we work hard to protect your transactions and Identity.
“We recently sent you correspondence indicating that your cards would be protected from certain risky sites.
“We have listened to you and have heard that this is not in line with your expectations. We have immediately made adjustments accordingly.
“Please be informed that all sites have been unblocked and you can now transact on any platform globally that you would like to whilst we continue to provide surveillance on some high-risk activity points to protect your transactions,” read the new email, which was signed by the bank’s Executive Director, Group COO, Mr. Chukwuma Nweke.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will continue to work hard to serve you better,” the email added.
