Manchester United are willing to go the whole 9-yards to sign their prime target in the summer transfer window.

Reports suggest the Red Devils are willing to jack up their planned transfer fee for Real Madrid's second choice forward, Alvaro Morata.

United have already seen their £70m offer rejected by Real Madrid and while the deal may be stalling at the moment, an improved bid is expected to come through as Jose Mourinho is understood to be keen.

According to Goal, Madrid's president, Florentino Perez is holding out for another £9m – although Morata is expected to arrive at United on Thursday.

The 24-year-old striker is currently on holiday – after he got married and started his honeymoon last week.

It has been reported that Morata does not want to join Real Madrid for pre-season and wants a deal set in place as soon as possible.

His agent has also held showdown talks in an attempt to force his way out of the Bernabeu.

On  his part, Mourinho appears desperate to have the Morata deal ready in time for Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the US.

The squad will fly out to America at the start of next week, with their first game against LA Galaxy on July 15.
