The usual drama that plays out during transfer periods is on display again.

The are more twists and turns being added to the impending transfer of Alexis Sanchez away from Arsenal.

First, it was Manchester City that were the firm favourites to land the Chilean striker, later the tables were turned towards the Red part of Manchester and lately reports claim Chelsea are ready to hijack the deal.

However, Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte on Tuesday told journalists that he does not think the Blues are trying to sign the Chilean striker.

Asked at his press conference on Tuesday if the west London club were actively trying to sign Sanchez, Conte replied: 'I don't know. I don't think so. I don't know, but I don't think so.'

Conte, speaking ahead of Wednesday's FA Cup third-round replay at home to Norwich, was also reluctant to discuss the transfer market.

'About the transfer market, I prefer to talk to the club, also to give opinions,' he added.

'I repeat: I don't want to give my opinion about the transfer market.

It is yet to be seen if Chelsea are not really interested in Sanchez or whether Conte is only feigning ignorance of the planned transfer coup.
