It was a black weekend for residents of Ondo state when two separate fatal accidents claimed seven lives at Akungba-Akoko and Ajibamidele axis of Benin-Ore-Lagos highway.

While five persons including a woman and her two grandchildren were crushed to death at Akungba-Akoko by a trailer that rammed into roadside Ibaka market at the University town; two commuters lost their lives in the auto crash at Ore road.

An eyewitness, Muritala Rauf says that the truck which was coming from Ikare axis of the road lost control while its driver was trying to dodge a car near the market.

He said several traders and passersby who were severely injured in the Akungba accident were taken to a nearby hospital for while officers of the FRSC and the police tried to restore normalcy.

Another witness, Iyabo Adewale said the casualties could have been greater if students of Adekunle Ajasin University were not on holiday.

Meanwhile, the Ore road accident that involved a black SUV and blue commercial bus, was said to have been caused by reckless overtaking which led to a head-on collision.
