TRADE FAIR: Lagos Exhibitors Commend COOPLAG Over Successful Expo
The annual trade exhibition organised by the Shell staff cooperative society has come and gone.
The trade event kicked off on Monday November 19 and ended on Friday November 23, 2018.
The trade fair, which held at the popular NEPA car park in Marina Lagos, had over 100 companies from several sectors of the economy exhibiting their products.
At the closing ceremony which held on Friday, members of the cooperative society had the opportunity of winning several prizes including a grand prize of a 40 million naira, 3-bedroom house in Abuja, courtesy of Cooperative Mortgage Bank.
Some of the exhibitors who spoke to Bounce News commended COOPLAG for successfully organizing this year’s expo without any glitches.
They said the event has seen considerable improvements since it started and tasked the organisers to continue to grow the trade expo.
One of the regular participants at the expo is auto dealer, Stallion Motors.
It’s representative at the fair, Engineer Mina Baima said the fair’s arrangement was impressive as there is now more access to most of the stands compared to previous years.
He said: “We have delivered quite a number of cars within the past one week. So, I would say business was encouraging. So far, so good, within the last one week, we have had three of our vehicles driven away.
“All the cars were sold at the promo rate, compared to how much they would have been sold at the Stallion showrooms. Each of the cars we sold had between 900,000 naira to 1.1-million-naira discount.
“I commend the organisers for a great job. The arrangement was impressive. This year, there is easier access to most of the stands here.”

Also speaking, owner of Sapphire Scents, Lagos – Kehinde Domeih said: “Business was great. When we started off on Monday, as usual for the first few hours, we were setting up and meeting other vendors, and people have been coming, both people from the cooperatives and the environs and all over Lagos.
“For us, we have had quite a good time with people, talking about perfume and making money at the same time. Sales have been good. The last three days have been better with sales and that’s because there has been more turnup.”
“This is our first time at this exhibition and if I were to book a stand for next year from today, I will do that. The organisers were very helpful by providing all information needed.
“It is very rare to see an exhibition that is well packaged like this. I’d just like them to do more publicity to create more awareness for the fair.”
On his part, Samuel Umeh from Franco Electronics said although business was slow compared to last year, he is nonetheless impressed with the organization of the fair this year.
He said: “We came here to exhibit all kinds of electronics. Business has been going well. I must give kudos to the organisers of the exhibition.
“Compared to last year, sales haven’t been as impressive. But you know, the condition of the economy is giving everyone great concern. Last year sales were far better than this year, but we don’t give up. I commend COOPLAG and encourage them to keep doing what they are doing.”
At the closing, COOPLAG’s president, Mr. Rotimi Akintomide said: “There is progress in what we are doing. Last year we gave out a house, which the winner was from Port Harcourt. This year, we also had the same thing, although the value of what we gave out this year was much higher.
“With respect to the entire event and its organization, this is the best we have ever had. We are really very happy. There were no issues whatsoever for the 5 days. We had vendors having fun selling at discounts and members buying enmasse from the vendors, and that has culminated in several gifts being given out. So, we are grateful that it went well, better than we even planned.”
The representative of the federal government at the event, Mrs. Oguntuyi Ambibola who is the Head of Inspectorate at Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Federal Department of Cooperatives, praised COPOPLAG for being professional.
This is even as she commended the transparent way the raffle draw was conducted, while tasking other cooperative societies in the country to emulate COOPLAG's high ethical standards.
