National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed Musiliu Obanikoro’s defection to the party.

Obanikoro on Saturday, November 25, 2017, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC.

Bounce News was present at the venue of the defection and noted that aside Obanikoro, other PDP chieftains that joined the APC include a former Senior Special Adviser to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Modupe Sasore, Jide Damazio, Kola Balogun, Jide Ladeinde, a former Lagos PDP youth leader; Hon Kamal Olorunoje and Yinka Balogun.

Leader of APC in the South West, Chief Pius Akinyelure, who represented Tinubu at the event in Lagos on Saturday, said Obanikoro has now returned to where he rightfully belongs as the party is now being strengthened with the coming of new members.

“The coming back of Obanikoro and others to their former home where they belong would further strengthen the APC in the state.”

Obanikoro’s defection comes 12 years after joining the PDP.

Though he has never served as a governor, Obanikoro is by far the most successful politician from Lagos state.

He was once a former council chairman, commissioner, senator, ambassador and minister.

He contested for the governorship seat in 2007 under the PDP but lost to former Governor and now Minister of Works and Power, Babatunde Fashola.
