Thugs Invade Atiku Campaign Office, Destroy Billboard
It is election period and tension is rising daily among the political class.
However, the violence and hostility that punctuate the preliminary activities of the election have continued to constitute a disturbing decimal in the political narration.
On Wednesday, some unidentified hoodlums allegedly invaded the campaign office of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in Akure, destroyed the billboard and tied the security guard on duty.
The development came less than 24 hours after the defacing of the campaign billboard of Ondo central senatorial candidate of the Zenith Labour party, Olusegun Mimiko.
Speaking on the invasion of Atiku Abubakar's campaign office, the deputy coordinator of PDP presidential campaign in Akure, Olumide Ogunkua maintained that the hoodlums arrived the office around 2am to carry out the dastardly act.
"We got a call and rushed down to the scene. We were told that they scaled through the fence to gain access to the compound and when the security guard tried to raise alarm, they overpowered him and tied him to the ground.
"When they finished their operations, they started shouting ‘next level’ as they were leaving which indicates that they are APC members."
He, however, noted that the campaign council will take up the matter and write a petition to the Inspector General of police.
Reacting to the allegation, the APC publicity Secretary in the state, Alex Kalejaiye described it as false and a deliberate attempt by the PDP to paint the ruling party in a bad light.
"The allegation is not true because members of our party are well cultured, and we are confident of our victory come 2019 election. So, if anybody is pointing accusing finger at APC, the person is either doing it out of frustration or ignorance", he said.
