Thugs Disrupts Kogi Poly Governing Council Meeting
Things are literally falling apart at the Kogi State Polytechnic as the institution battling with infrastructure decay is gradually turning to a battle ground of some sort.
It was gathered that thugs allegedly loyal to the rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Isah Mohammed recently invaded the main campus of the institution in Lokoja and prevented the Governing Council from sitting.
The Council, who later moved to an undisclosed venue for their meeting, invited the men of the Nigerian Police force to dislodge the invaders who were armed.
BOUNCE NEWS gathered that the school's Academic Staff Union and Non-Academic Staff Union had moved against the reappointment of the Rector, insisting that the positions should be advertised for interested and eligible candidate to apply.
This, however, does not go down well with Mr. Mohammed who is allegedly desperate to stay on as the Rector.
The thugs that wreaked havoc on the Kogi campus were alleged to have been hired from the central senatorial district of the state.
According to a source, the rector who his first tenure expired this week had been accused of incompetence and highhandedness.
He was also accused of using students and informants within the institution to organise protests and even endorse his eligibility on a paid radio advertisement.
It was alleged that the 27-year old Polytechnic have been turned into a theater of war under the administration of Isah Mohammed who has been boasting that his kinsman, the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello would stop at nothing to extend his tenure for the second term.
Though the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Luke Tijani confirmed unrest on the campus, he said the tension had nothing to do with the controversial rector.
