Thugs Beat 72-Year-Old-Man To Stupor In Akure
Three suspected hired thugs are now in police net for allegedly beating a 72-year-old man, Pa. Ilesanmi Adedayo to coma.
Pa Adedayo is currently receiving medical attention at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, Osun state while police are on the trail of a middle-aged man who allegedly engaged the services of the thugs.
Information gathered at the hospital at the weekend revealed that the septuagenarian was hit with an object by the hoodlums while trying to settle a land dispute among some members of his family in Akure.
It was gathered that the middle-aged man in the family circle, simply identified as Akin had insisted that nobody should tamper with the property for it belongs to his father.
He then recruited the services of the thugs who manhandled the old man.
Meanwhile, reports have it that Pa Adebayo has not opened his eyes since being at the hospital for eight days.
Speaking at OAUTHC, Ile-Ife on the development, Mrs. Modupe Akinlawon who is a daughter to Pa Adebayo, described the incident as inhuman, callous and wicked.
She urged the law enforcement agents to ensure that the perpetrators of the attack are brought to book.
She revealed that the thugs hit her father’s head with wood, and blood splashed into the old man’s brain which caused him to be unconscious and unable to open both eyes.
One of the medical experts who preferred anonymity told our reporter that the chances of survival for the victim is 50/50 because of the major surgical operation that would be performed on him.
"The type of operation to be performed on such a person is called borehole and it is not guaranteed that it will automatically succeed," he said.
