There are rising cases of divorce mostly between people perceived to be madly in love with each other at the beginning.

Marriage is a sweet experience, but it is shocking that only very few can say this confidently these days.

To some, marriage has become a dream, only sweet and successful in dreamland.

But the reality is different, because no one is perfect, they say.

There are, however, a few things a couple must do to enjoy and have a lasting marriage, even Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, knows this.

At a wedding held in Ilorin on Saturday, Mr Mohammed highlighted that marriage is a contract that is sustained with trust, truth, patience and prayers.

Respect for the institution of marriage is the key to building a happy home and a good nation,” he said at the wedding ceremony of his Special Adviser’s younger brother, Mr Israel Adeleye.

Mr Mohammed highlighted that marriage is a contract that is sustained with trust, truth, patience and prayers.

He cautioned against broken marriages, noting that a good society is built by a well-groomed children from loving and united families.

The minister specifically advised the new couple to see each other as brother and sister, and friends for the union to be blissful and last long.

“All we can do is to pray for the young couple to be able to navigate the turbulence water of marriage,’’ he said.

Also at the wedding ceremony was, Ms Grace Gekpe, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Culture.

She advised the couple not to bring in third party to the marriage but to seek the face of God in times of challenges.

Others who spoke at the ceremony highlighted that “building a good home is building a good nation’’.
