This Ebonyi Community With 22 Polling Units Has No Health Facility
Imagine the population of a community of 22 political polling units without a health centre or general hospital.
The only health centre was said to have been blown off by rainstorm and overtaken by grasses. All efforts by the community to draw government attention to it have not been successful.
Perhaps, it is a time youths in the area must get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) and elect the leaders they want, who will bring basic social amenities to the community.
Traditional ruler of Ukawu Kingdom, His Royal Highness, Eze Jame Elom, Ogenyi III, disclosed that the community lacks any health facility as he appealled to Governor David Umahi to come to their aide.
According to him, both the health centre and Ukawu Community Secondary School are dilapidated and need urgent government intervention.
"I have approached Onicha local government for assistance, but since then, I have not seen any help. The health centre and the school whose roofs were blown off by rainstorm are at the same location and dilapidated.
"We took the pictures of the two institutions and sent to them, but we have not received any response. If there is any way the government can help us, especially the health centre, we will be happy. We have no general hospital in Ukawu kingdom and we are numerous in number.
"We are having 22 polling units to show you that our number is much, and the masses have no place to receive treatment. So, we are begging government to come to our rescue.
"We have been making effort to address the clashes between farmers and herdsmen in Ukawu community. The governor advised us to regularly meet with them which we have been doing. Whenever they damage our farmland, they pay for it. The governor warned us not to kill.
"I have told my subjects to maintain the peace that there is no room for violence in my kingdom” he said.
