The Miracle Behind Akeredolu’s Governorship Victory
“I can tell you that our success and victory in the election was a miracle,” the Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, told a congregation at the All Saint’s Church, Jericho, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
It was a Sunday to remember and from a mere look around the church, you could tell it was a great occasion and not just a regular Sunday Service.
Outside the church compound were different luxury cars, with security personnel heavily guarding the area.
The thanksgiving service was organised in honour of the new Governor of Ondo State, happening weeks after he was sworn in.
Entered Into A Covenant
The excitement that the presence of the Governor had brought to the Church could be felt, as the choir sings. Melodious praises serenade the environment, with the congregation dancing and celebrating with the Governor who told the church he had entered into a covenant with God before the election.
“I contested once and I told the Lord that if I win, I will build a place of worship for you.
“I was not too sure that the victory will come but I said to the Lord that whether win, lose or draw I will build a place of worship for you.
“It is because I have that strong faith in God and we did it. And now that same Lord gave us the victory. So, my people you don’t have to wait until he answers your prayers before you do things for God.
“Do it. May be that is where success will come. May be God remembered what we did and that was why he gave us victory, ” he said.
Akeredolu, the candidate of the All progressives Congress, defeated Mr Eyitayo Jegede of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and Dr Olusola Oke of the AD to emerge winner in the November 2016 governorship election in the state.
He said his victory was also a manifestation of the people's trust and love for God.
After the testimony and admonition it was time for promises and Governor Akeredolu promised to lead a purposeful government in the state.
Be Wary Of Sycophants
He told the congregation he was indebted to the church because he had found all that he wanted in the church.
“It was in this church that I became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, President of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) and now a governor.”
Earlier, Venerable Godwin Daramola in his sermon, urged the governor to make thanksgiving his lifestyle in order to experience the blessings of God on a daily basis.
“When you acknowledge the blessings of God, he will be committed to preserving all that he has done for you,” the News Agency of Nigeria quoted him as saying.
He told Mr Akeredolu to emulate the exemplary life of Jesus Christ, to strive for integrity and to be wary of sycophants.
The Chairperson of Oyo State Branch of the Nigeria Red Cross Society, Mrs Mojisola Ojo, described Akeredolu as a staunch and committed member of the society.
