The power of Africa was conjured at the 5th African Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA).

It all started with a song; a collaboration.

Nigeria’s songstress, Waje, teamed up with multi-platinum South African singer, Lira on a song titled ‘Mountains’.

The song was first performed on stage at the AMVCA. It is a song of hope and unity.

My guess is that the song was picked by the organizers, because it emphasises the message of peace and perseverance.

At the end of the performance Lira raised Waje’s hand and said 'We stand against xenophobia. Stop xenophobia'.

Anti-immigrant violence began in South Africa earlier this year against a background of near-record unemployment, with foreigners being accused of criminal activity and taking jobs from locals.

‘Mountain’ was first performed by Waje on The Voice Nigeria in 2016.
