There is loud silence in some communities in Osogbo. Residents are mourning the death of three people who are allegedly oblivious of the crisis.

The formerly outlawed cultists appear to be gaining momentum in some local council areas in Osun state.

A middle-aged man, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained has been shot dead by some gunmen believed to be members of a cult group in Osogbo, Osun state capital.

The killing, which happened in Abaku area of Osogbo Monday afternoon, was, according to security sources, a reprisal attack on a marked member of a deadly cult group.

The were reports of an earlier attack in which two members of another cult group were killed on Sunday.

According to the source, "Monday killing was a kind of revenge because a cult group had launched attack on another group in Amadiyya Area of Osogbo on Sunday.

"When the dust of the attack settled, two men, Goddy and Jasper had been shot dead. Members of their group are surely behind the Abaku Monday killing to take revenge."

On Monday, a police van carrying a dead body suspected to be that of the man killed in Abaku was seen around Fagbewesa road, moving towards LAUTECH Teaching, Hospital.

An official statement from the police on the matter was still being expected at the time this story was published.
