Tension As Ondo Poly Suspends Exams Over Killing Of Student
While the management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo Ondo state have refused to shut down the school over the recent killing of a student by a cult group, it has simply suspended it's third semester exams that had been scheduled to commence on Monday December 3.
But this did not go down well with the students who are worried and currently living in fear of a reprisal attack from the rival cult group which they claim may degenerate into a bloodbath within the campus.
Many of them who said they have prepared well for the exams, are currently pleading with the management to shut down the school pending when the tension subsides and peace returns to the campus.
"This is no more about exams right now. It is about the safety of the students. We were supposed to start our exams today, Monday but we cannot because of a student who was killed by a cult group.
"As long as we remain on campus, the rival group can strike anytime, and this is why we call on the management to suspend activities for now till everything is resolved" said Tola Osho of Mass communication department.
Also, a student of Business Administration who spoke to Bounce News in confidence said there is anxiety on campus.
"We have no reason to remain on campus for now. They should have allowed us stay away from school till everything is settled. We were all waiting and preparing for exams before but now that it has been postponed, what are we waiting for?
"We can't just go home because the school can decide to commence the exam anytime without notice. This is what makes it difficult for us."
Suspected cultists were said to have gunned down the student who was identified as Ajibade Raheem in front of the school gate early on Thursday morning.
According to an eyewitness, the ND1 student of Public Admin Department was shot by a group of young men inside a vehicle while in motion, leading to pandemonium at the institution as students and other persons around scampered for safety.
The Public Relations Officer of the Polytechnic, Mr Samuel Ojo, who confirmed the incident said security personnel have been drafted to the area, but a close source disclosed that the rival cult group are warming up and threatening revenge.
