He is old enough to be her father. He was introduced to her as a respectable person. She trusted him and she didn't see it coming.

From allowing her to watch movies in his house to taking advantage of her innocence, a 49-year-old man, Ajibade Adefioye, has ended up in a Magistrate Court.

He was arraigned on Wednesday before the Ikeja Court after he allegedly raped and impregnated his landlord’s daughter, a development that Lagos' residents will refer to as 'double wahala'.

The accused, who resides at 32, Shittu Street, Dopemu, Agege, a suburb of Lagos is standing trial for rape.

The prosecutor, Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed at the apartment of the accused.

Ogu said that the victim told her parents that Adefioye, had raped her and is responsible for her pregnancy.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail of 250,000 Naira with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till March 22.
